Revere Data™ Announces Revisions to the Revere Hierarchy™

Revere Data is making several revisions to the products and services classification system known as the Revere Hierarchy™. As a result of a periodic review, Revere is redefining the industry classification structure so that it more accurately reflects the definitions that are more broadly used by global financial services firms. This change only affects the patented Revere Hierarchy™ at the broadest levels. Revere’s unparalleled ability to create product-based company groups based on the goods and services a company sells as well as its precision in understanding the investment landscape will remain the same.

Specifically, Revere is replacing its previous 10-branch industry structure with a new 7-branch structure. The new design provides a superior grouping of related companies and sectors, as well as a more even distribution of companies and market weightings. The changes further support Revere’s philosophy of providing a fundamental framework for grouping companies with similar product lines and risk-return profiles based on lines of business. Prior to the changes being visible to customers on Monday September 24, a product specialist will contact Revere datafeed customers to discuss the minimal impact of these changes and to assist you in implementing any necessary file changes, including file management directions to support the revised taxonomy.

Below is a description of the scheduled changes:

What This Change Means

We have created two new industry categories. Consumer is built largely by breaking out Consumer Manufacturing from the current Manufacturing branch and combining it with Media, Retail, and Hospitality. These last three will no longer be displayed as top-level industries. This grouping of sectors provides a more accessible grouping of consumer-related sectors and companies to reflect the cumulative impact of the consumer dollar. The new sector ticker will be ^CONSM. Industrial products and materials consists of what was the Manufacturing category, however, Consumer Manufacturing has been moved to the Consumer industry. The sector ticker will remain ^MANUF.

In addition, Services has been renamed Business and Public Services. The components are the same, with two exceptions. Consumer Services has been moved to the Consumer category, and Telecommunications Services has been moved from the Technology category into Business and Public Services. The sector ticker will remain ^SRVCS.

Transportation will no longer be found at the Industry level. The Passenger Transportation sub-sector will be integrated into the Hospitality sector of the new Consumer industry. Cargo/Delivery Services will be integrated into Business Services as part of the new Business and Public Services industry.
